A handy guide to keeping your new carpet looking great
Wools of New Zealand Brand carpets will stay looking great for years. Carpets that use a blend of fibers will show their age more quickly as the various fiber types will wear differently, causing high traffic areas to have a higher lustre than other areas. Because your carpet is made from at least 80% pure new wool it has inbuilt soiling protection that was put there by nature. The tiny scales on wool fibre protect it from soil and stains and because the fiber has a low-lustre and is opaque, dirt will not be as visible as it would on a synthetic fiber which is made from oil. There are some simple things you can do to maintain your New Zealand wool carpet and keep it looking brilliant for many years to come.
Vacuuming
Wool carpets trap dust, but this is a good thing as it means that dust is not floating about in your home irritating and causing allergies. Carpets are textiles and require a little bit of looking after. The most important thing to do is to regularly vacuum your carpet, especially in high traffic areas.Vacuuming once per week will ensure that dust and dirt is kept out of the pile. Vacuum a little more often in heavy traffic areas. Certain cleaners are more appropriate for certain types of carpets. Make sure you choose the best type of cleaner to keep your carpet looking marvellous.
Oh, and take it slow, don’t frantically scurry about, give the machine time to lift the dirt out of the pile. If there are small piles of loose fibre on your carpet, DON’T PANIC! The first few times you vacuum your carpet there will be a little bit of shedding and the cleaner may fill up very fast. Shedding a tiny percentage of the carpet fibers escaping from your carpet that don’t really need to be in there is completely normal and will settle down after a few weeks.
Preventative Maintenance
You can prevent damage from occurring to your wool carpet by placing absorbent mats at the most frequently used entrances to your home. These should be changed or laundered when they become dirty.Spot Cleaning

Speed is of the essence and applying the right treatments promptly will help prevent stains and damage. The following tips will help you deal with spills and spots you may encounter:• In the case of spilt liquids, the recommended method is to blot the spill with an absorbent, white cloth.
• If solids are spilt, they should be scooped or picked up quickly. Any remaining residue should then be treated.
• When applying cleaning agents, follow instructions on the packaging and use a small quantity at a time. Always test first in an inconspicuoes area.
• By working your way inwards from the outer edge of a spot, you can prevent the stain from spreading.
• When cleaning up spills and spots, avoid rubbing as this can cause the spot to spread or distort the pile.
• Keep the carpet as dry as possible during cleaning. After applying the required treatment, blot the area as dry as possible with a clean cloth and then cover with paper towels to dry.
